Post Card Fundraiser

We are asking Guild members to make and donate Post Cards to be sold at the 2021 Quilt Show as a fundraiser.  In order to assure that the post cards can be mailed, the following requirements and limits are provided:

  • Postcards must be 4”x 6” and no thicker than 1/4"
  • Postcards MUST consist of at least 3 layers:
    • A decorated top layer of fiber such as fabric, silk paper or another textile fiber
    • A middle firmer layer such as “fast2fuse,” peltex, timtex, or card stock
    • A backing of muslin or light-colored solid fabric that can be written on
  • It must have a clean finished edge, such as a zigzag stitch, satin stitch, or a narrow binding.
  • Write your name and date on the back of the card in an inconspicuous place with permanent pen.

This is a chance for members to experiment with different surface design techniques, such as inks, paints, Shiva sticks, photo printing on fabric, stamping, etc.   Due to the requirement that postcards be no thicker than 1/4 of an inch, the use of batting is discouraged.

Several documents have been posted in the Documents section to assist in creating your postcards.

FOR POST CARD BACKS - Download the file(s) to your computer.  Use your home printer to print on a sheet of fabric.  Use commercial printable fabric sheets or your own fabric ironed to a 8.5" x 11" sheet of freezer paper.  Optional: Fabric can be pre-treated with Bubble Jet Set to be washable.  Follow the directions for the Bubble Jet product.

IDEAS AND INSPIRATION - If you do an internet search for fabric postcards, you will find many good tutorials and videos.  Pinterest is a great source for ideas and inspiration.  Geneva Carroll and Barbara Minton have joined an excellent Facebook page called "POSTCARD FABRIC ART - Quilt, Applique, FMQ, Paint Monthly Challenge".  This is a private FB site and to join you must answer a few questions about your interest in Postcard fabric arts and then be invited.  No personal data is required and it keeps the robots out.   We will also be adding other resources as we find them.

Barbara Minton will be the lead on this project and questions can be sent to her at mintonba@hotmail.com.  NOW GO PLAY WITH YOUR SCRAPS AND FABRIC PAINTS.
