 2020 Workshops

Velda Newman and Kathy McNeil Coming in 2020

Known for her large-scale, painterly designs, most of which are based on her observations of nature, Velda Newman creates original quilts of exceptional beauty and craftsmanship. She works in vivid colors and close-up, eye-level detail of her subjects —flowers, butterflies, sea shells, fish, and fruit—to create stunning works of art that have a tactile, three-dimensional immediacy. She will lecture at both May Guild meetings and will teach a subject to yet be determined on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 19-20, 2020.

Kathy McNeil is an internationally award-winning quilt artist, teacher, author, and judge. Hand sewing thousands of little scraps of fabric together by hand, she creates quilts that look like paintings. Often using over a hundred different fabrics in one composition, she revels in adding small details and surprises for the viewers to find. Her award-winning quilts are featured in museums, magazines, calendars, and international shows.  She will lecture at both September Guild meetings and offer a 3-hour workshop between them and a 6-hour workshop on September 21, 2020.
